GORGE is an annual celebration of the legacy and future of 2SLGBTQIA+ art and drag based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Treaty 1 Territory. Winnipeg's drag scene is recognized for its collaborative, community-based approach to the art form, which sets it apart from many other cities who boast hierarchical, fame-based models that are intended to uplift individual performers, leaving others behind. GORGE believes in a collectivist approach to community building, centring the needs and dreams of artists, while uplifting creators from historically under-represented groups. Occurring during Pride season, GORGE strives to create accessible alternative spaces for individuals and families (chosen or otherwise) to engage in innovative queer programming outside of overly commodified and pinkwashed events. Beyond the festival, GORGE works year-round to advocate for equitable employment opportunities and new avenues for 2SLGBTQIA+ artists and drag performers to showcase their many talents.
