MISSION STATEMENT
Synonym Art Consultation is a curatorial collective and small arts business based in Winnipeg, Manitoba on the stolen, ancestral, and traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiw (Cree), Anish-iniw (Oji-Cree), Dakota, and Dene Peoples, the homeland of the Métis Nation, sustained by water sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation.
Synonym offers meaningful employment opportunities to artists through consultation and project management services with various community organizations, commercial developers, and private clients. With a focus on care, transparency, and collaboration, we strive to lessen the impacts of logistical and systemic barriers for artists, allowing them to focus on their craft.
Our core programs include public art, music, drag, and event production, with a keen focus on engaging storytelling via online platforms. These projects are informed by creative and traditional forms of community consultation and hinge on notions of capacity building, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing, in order to create sustainable careers for artists.
VISION STATEMENT
Through unique, inclusive, community-minded projects, Synonym cultivates a grassroots contemporary street art movement in Manitoba and activates hyperlocal and international dialogues around important issues, such as social responsibility, and innovative economic development, rooted in the arts.
